Father's Day Crafts, Cards & Facts
Raise by a single father, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane Washington wanted to do something to honor her father William Smart. She began by asking her minister to have a service honoring fathers. The service was held on the third Sunday in June of 1910, which became the official Father's Day for Washington State.

The holiday spread from state to state and by 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of making it a national Holiday. In 1966, President Johnson became the first President to issue a proclamation recognizing Father’s Day. It became an Official National Holiday in 1972.
